The Mayan calendar does this by ending. Nostradamus apparently does this in his usual, precise way. Quoth the site:

Actually, I will be turning 40 in 2012, so at least one thing will be happening, preferably involving alcohol and cake in equal amounts.

Also, a hater bonus, Google Sky is removing select areas of the sky to hide the location of various as of yet undiscovered planets. I wonder if Google Sky gets asked to remove certain objects the way Google Earth does? Damn you, Dick Cheney!
