FYI, this is not a serious article about why the LHC is not going to destroy the Earth. When I say this I do not mean that the author is not completely serious, I mean that it is not a scientific approach to the issue. Enjoy the crazy, LHC Will not Destroy the Earch and Here is Why.

If and when the Large Hadron Collider fully powers up and smashes opposing particle streams, the world will not end. However, the end of the age and Christ’s return will happen, and God’s faithful Church will continue to preach the gospel of the Kingdom of God, to warn and witness right up to that time (Matthew 24:14).

Also the “birther” graphic is a blatant give away on, among other things, the scientific seriousness of the article.

National Geographic Panders To The Skittish

In a recent article National Geographic pumps up the fear of its readers and does not bother to offer the opposing view point until the last third of the article. Does NG really need this kind of hook? Maybe they should just stick to the pretty pictures.

The first is a Scientific American article on John McCain’s hater attitude, saying research on Montana’s grizzly bear population is a waste.

McCain also hits the research in speeches on the stump, cracking jokes about bear paternity tests and criminal investigations. “I don’t know if it was a paternity issue or criminal, but it was a waste of money,”

The 2012 Comet predicted by Nostradamus

Awesome news from the ultra reliable news source of a link in my very own Google ads, 2012 Comet, Nostradamus and the Mayan calendar predict some cataclysm in 2012. The Mayan calendar does this by ending. Nostradamus apparently does this in his usual, precise way. Quoth the site:

Let’s pray that the Mayans & Nostradamus were wrong and nothing happens in 2012!

Actually, I will be turning 40 in 2012, so at least one thing will be happening, preferably involving alcohol and cake in equal amounts.

Also, a hater bonus, Google Sky is removing select areas of the sky to hide the location of various as of yet undiscovered planets. I wonder if Google Sky gets asked to remove certain objects the way Google Earth does? Damn you, Dick Cheney!

Local People Wonder if LHC and Strange Lights in the Sky are Connected

Via the Louth Leader: UFO Sightings Connected to the Large Hardon Collider.

Local people make the “connection” when they wonder, “Could it be something to do with that experiment they are doing under ground in Geneva letting out pockets of energy or something?”

The strange lights were seen by many people over a large area. However, given that the LHC could create wormholes it is far more likely that these are our first group of time travelers.

hadron hating hackers attack!

Telegraph.co.uk reports that Hackers attack Large Hadron Collider. The ne’er-do-wells, a group calling themselves the “Greek Security Team”, posted files on one of the LHC systems and changed the web page at the cmsmon.cern.ch website which was, and still may be, unreachable from the outside world for security purposes. The bad men, I don’t like calling them hackers unless it adds to my alliterations, came close to compromising the network of the Compact Muon Soleniod Experiment, or CMS, and possibly gaining entry to the control system of the 12,500 ton apparatus.

The white hat part of me speculates that the intruders only wanted to test the security of the network and would not have purposefully caused any harm; however, they left a rather nasty calling card up on the website to announce their intrusion. Regardless of their possibly good intentions, the LHC researchers do not need any wrenches in the works. Their jobs are complicated enough without worrying about who has access to their systems. I suppose that, had they really wanted to harness the power of the LHC’s high power computing for their own purposes they likely would have not made their presence known.
