Consulting Scientist in Several Fields of the Sciences Weighs In On the Dangers if the LHC.

Today, September 15 2008, Vinny Pinto issued a press release regarding his recent article, Some Thoughts from a Mystic and Intuitive on the Perceived Dangers of the CERN LHC Collider Project. Relevant links will follow my brief summary of Mr. Pinto’s work.

The article is an “offering [of Pinto's] opinion on the matter from his unique perspective as a person who walks in both the realms of science and mysticism.” Pinto uses his studies in meditation, electrical engineering, general science (a Masters Degree), and metaphysics to delve deeply into 3 main questions regarding the LHC and its possible dangers. During these meditative Q and A sessions he describes the following:

…once I got to a very still and quiet place where I felt very much in touch with what I call Holy Spirit and Sacred Heart (aka Supreme Heart), I proceeded to ask several questions, as normally I tend to get extremely accurate information at this level, and, in fact, it is at this level where I get all the information from Divinity that has allowed me to create each of my strange inventions and prototypes of my strange technologies.

After reaching this state of heightened awareness he asked the following questions of the “Divinity”:

Is there any possibility that the operation of the LHC may or will result in creating or causing some kind of event or events that could or would cause significant harm or destruction to earth or to the universe, or to life on earth?

In short, the answer he received was, “No”.

Is there any possibility that the operation of the LHC may or will result in creating or causing some kind of effect or field or cloud of energy or something that will have significant and adverse effects upon the consciousness of humans or upon their health by affecting them on some kind of energetic or etheric level, or that will affect their mood?

This response also came back negative; “The answer was a very brief ‘no’”.

Is there any possibility that some other scientific, academic, commercial, industrial or government project may or will result in creating or causing some kind of event or events that could or would cause significant and major harm or destruction to earth or to the universe, or to life on earth, perhaps via scenarios similar to those envisioned as doomsday scenarios for the LHC?

This response, however, came back to Pinto in a less concise manner than the previous answers. He ultimately states that the LHC and other modern experiments are unlikely to cause the mass destruction many people are worried about; however if it did occur it would not hurt nor would anyone even have time to notice it happened.

The destruction, if it were to happen, would not be destruction in the sense of fire or an explosion, but rather, it could perhaps be best visualized as an instantaneous disappearance of all matter of the earth and of its atmospheric envelope, and for some objects in orbit around and near the earth. And no, the destruction, which is better perhaps called a disappearance, if it were to come to pass, would not be at all painful for any life forms involved. There would also be no fear, no thought, no recrimination, no worry on the part of any beings “destroyed” in the event. Rather, all matter on earth, and the earth itself, and some nearby matter, would simply disappear instantly from existence in the physical world, no pain involved. The odds are very small, and for the disaster to occur, a number of rather improbable events and circumstances would need to be in place, all at one time.

Should you have any further questions for Mr. Pinto, he has a vast array of web presences at which you can do so.

How about asking “Will the billions spent on this scientific device pay off in the form of breakthroughs in the field of Physics? Breakthroughs that will have significant lasting impact upon the human race?”

    bls:

Has quantum mechanics, and its spin-off of semiconductors, computer chips, cell phones, etc. had ’significant lasting impact upon the human race”?
Has Einstein’s theories of special and general relativity, which corrected false notions about motions of planets and motions of electrons, protons, andeutrons, had “significant lasting impact upon the human race”?
On the other hand, very few funds were spent in order to receive the practical, enlightening, freeing wisdom through the ages, from Krishna, Jesus, Rumi and Hafiz, Whitman, ………
    hmmmmm.

    Hi folks:

I am the author of the article in question, and am just stopping by briefly to address some of the issues raised in these comments. First, jt wrote:

My own feeling is that even though I am a scientist, I personally would not bother with the effort, and I would rather send my time in deep meditation, but I do understand that most scientists need their big toys, and so I just kinda smile at the whole CERN LHC effort, and say “God bless them too!”. It is not my thing, and not my way, but it is okay with me if they want to have fun!

And, in response to the comments by bls above, well, yes, I kinda agree. Personally, as a mystic myself, I would rather simply spend my time in deep meditation, in a deep place of peace and love and grace which offers some degree of benefit to all beings and to all creation, but I would certainly not wish to force my preferences in this matter (i.e., inexpensive inner focus on the Divine versus expensive research projects in the outer world…) on anyone else!

    with care,
